No time make love

Before the end of Greek Week, I wanted to devote one post to the reason we chose Greece in the first place. I've wanted to go to Greece since I was just a little girl. The love affair began on New Year's Eve 1989. I was eight. Before my parents headed out for the night, one of the first that they let my older sister and I "babysit each other," they took us to Bo-Lin Video and we rented The Moon-Spinners.

Windmills near the Elounda Canal

The Moon-Spinners is a Disney live-action feature film starring Hayley Mills in a story about a jewel thief hiding on the island of Crete. This movie has got it all

Action, adventure, windmills...

...churches, ruins, emeralds

...danger, old Greek ladies singing...

and scary cats. Cats are bad luck on Crete.

And, even though we didn't see the moon one night that we were there, it was a total vacation of a lifetime!

  2. Ha. It's a line from the movie. I don't know if they are really bad luck on Crete, but it's a bit of a running joke now in my family.
