Honeymoon Day

For the last day of Honeymoon Week, I wanted to do a dessert. But you know, we didn't really eat any desserts in Greece that were, well, Greek. We did however, have some super Greek dessert wine, which we discovered on Honeymoon Day.

When we chose Greece as our honeymoon destination, we knew we were in for an adventure. We tried new foods, hiked mountains, jumped off of rocks, had a few brushes with wildlife, all of which was a good time. But, for one day, and one day only, Alex and I had Honeymoon Day.

On Honeymoon Day we rented an ATV instead of hiking. Took our time wandering through the ruins of Ancient Thera. We ate lunch and took a nap on Kamari Beach. And then, we went to Art Space, one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. It is a must see if you visit Santorini.

Art Space is part winery, part art gallery, part cultural center. The art is stunning, but the most amazing part of the gallery, which was began as the old winery, is the strikingly beautiful walls, carved from caves of pumice stone. The architecture is a site to see.

After a personal tour of the space, we joined another couple for a tour of the new winery, where they make four delicious wines and a traditional anise-flavored spirit called raki. For €2, we got to taste each: Nychteri, a bold, sweet, thirst quenching white (Alex's favorite!). Saint August - a dry white with a bit of a kick. Saint August Reserve - same as the Saint August with an even bigger kick. And, the Vinsanto - a super sweet, dessert red made from dried red grapes (my favorite!) We ended up buying a few to bring home, but couldn't resist drinking them before leaving Greece.

On the way back to the hotel, we picked up dessert (chocolate marshmallow cake - not super Greek) and enjoyed it on our balcony while we watched the sunset over the caldera.
